My system specs:
gigabyte z370p d3
Intel Pentium Gold g5400
Geforce Gtx 560 ti
Cooler Master masterwatt 550
3x 1TB hdd's, one WD Blue and two Seagate Barracudas.
4gb g.skill aegis ddr4 2400

When using the motherboard hdmi output, I get video, but my gpu has a mini hdmi, so I bought a cable and I connected it to the tv and the gpu, there was no video. Thinking it could've been a driver issue, I tried installing the gpu driver from nvidia, but it failed because it could not detect the gpu. It has 2x 6-pin connectors, both are plugged in. The fan is spinning on the gpu. Please, if you need more information to help, just ask.

Solution
ok so that is not the issue leave the sata cables they should be fine try starting again from scratch remove the GPU and power connectors make sure the GPU is pushed in fully re-connect power and see if there is any difference all I can suggest. Best of luck do it slow properly see what happens.

Brand new I just bought it. I could try unplugging the sata and data cables to give it more power, but like I said, the fan is moving and air is blowing out the rear
