Question no video output

my wife got me an asrock b550 pro 4 motherboard and a ryzen 5 3600 processor with a 500 wat power supply. I am new to computer but put it together and it gives me a boot light on the motherboard but i am getting no video. I have reset the cmos by taking the battery out and have crucial memory. Is the motherboard bad and i need to return it or is it something i am missing

Do you have a video card installed? The CPU lacks an integrated video adapter, so you must have a video card installed.

If you have a video card installed, you must connect your monitor/display to the video card and not one of the video ports connected directly to your motherboard.
