No Windows 8 product key sticker?

Since I get redirceted to this site instantly I think I should help out the people that also land here. If you want to recover your windows 8 key that is embedded in your device than listen up! Here's the solution!

If you have a running windows version you can use NirSoft’s ProduKey to recover your own key.

However if your HDD or SSD has crashed and you cannot reach your activated windows. Here's what you do. You install a temporary version of windows with a bogus key! I know this isn't allowed but it's better than the alternative which is just pirating the software. You get RWEverything. And you take the following steps.

Go to ACPI at the top bar.
Click MSDM at the top buttons in the new window.

PRESTO! Your key is there!

However this doesn't work with DELL machines. Anybody know how to get there?

Well, with most laptops the OS key in imbedded in the mobo, so even with a new HDD/SSD, the license can just be activated once the OS is installed without any key.

so should I not have put in the key I got from the produkey that said that was the key for the laptop?

not required to have a lengthy process.
if you have the ISO of same version of OS which came with your laptop just try installing and the key will be taken automatically
