No wireless conection even if its conected

hi all, i`m having problems conecting to the internet even though it says a have a strong signal and connected!!! i have tried activating the :autamaticly ip and dns server; but still the same thing.....my desk top is the same ,but on the lap top running xp if u conect the ethernet cable i`m fine just no wireless on the desk top running xp also nothing either way!! anybody can help?

Experiment with wireless security turned off in the router. may help isolate the problem.
