In the threads around here, I keep seeing the Noctua NH-D14 being highly recommended.

However, right now, the ones available for me is the Noctua NH-C14 and the CoolerMaster Hyper 212.

In the case that I can't get my hands on a Noctua NH-D14, which of the two is better?

My future rig would have an i5 4690K and a GTX 970.

Noctua are generally the best air coolers available for overclocking, however the down side is the brown theme. If you do not favour a colour theme, then I do not see a reason to not go with Noctua.

If you are not a heavy overclocker, then seek the cheaper option of the two.

A friendly reminder, hopefully you will be getting a Z97 motherboard.
And also air coolers do tend to be big, so make sure your RAM will not be interfered. :)

Yes, I'm planning to get a Z97 motherboard. My friend also recommended that to me. But can you tell me what's so special about them? I'm kind of a build noob. :)

Alright Z97 is a type of chipset which enables users to have a better overclocking experience (which means more overclocking).

The features of a H97 and Z97 are almost similar.

If you are looking for one, try the Asus Z97-A. And try to avoid MSI motherboard due to terrible QC.

I'm sorry, but what is QC? I'm not yet familiar with some terms.
