I'm currently looking for a new CPU cooler because my old one, an Antec 650, stopped working.
I've been looking at the Noctua NH-D15, but I'm unsure whether or not it will fit.
My specifications:
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Hero
CPU: Intel 4770k
Graphic Cards: 2x Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB DirectCU II Video Card
RAM: Kingston Beast 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory
Soundcard: Asus Xonar Phoebus
Case: Zalman Z11 Plus
On uk.pcpartpicker.com, the only compatibility note (outside of RAM voltage being a bit too high) is that it can't verify whether or not the D15 fits into the case or not, but I want to make absolutely sure.
According to the Noctua website, the D15 is compatible with my motherboard. But will I be able to make use of the top PCIe slot for my soundcard? I assume I will, since the website doesn't mention any other notes except that they are compatible.
The D15 got 64mm RAM clearance in singlefan mode and 32mm clearance in dualfan mode. The height of my RAM is 46.44mm. Is it possible to get extra clearance in dualfan mode, by raising the fans? Is it possible to avoid clearance issues by slotting the RAM in slot 3-4, instead of 2-4 as I'm currently doing?
Finally, the Zalman Z11 plus should have 161mm CPU fan clearance. The D15 is 162mm, but it should fit as far as I've read. If I'm able to get enough RAM clearance by raising the fans, I probably won't be able to close the case properly. What kind of negative effects could that have on my system?
I know that I could always just run with the singlefan setup, which should only result in a temperature increase of about 4 celcius (I think). Optionally, I could get some low profile RAM, but I'm trying to find out what my options is with my current setup.
Alternatively, I could use a tip for any other CPU cooler that would fit my setup while retaining good performance.
Any help is much appreciated, thanks.
