Hello,
I just changed my CPU cooler from a Hyper 212 EVO to a Noctua NH-U14s. I used arctic cleaner to make sure the heatsink and CPU were clean and I used the pea method to apply thermal paste. However I am noticing temps that are higher than when I was using the Evo. The Evo was capable of keeping a:
4.4GHz clock at +0.004 turbo and +0.005 offset at 85 degrees in Intel Burn Test.

However with the Noctua installed the temps with that overclock hit 89 degrees so I had to downclock it. It is now running at:
4.3GHz with a turbo voltage of +0.004 and -0.035 offset. This causes IBT to max out at 80 degrees (on one core with the others staying at around 76).

This seems rather strange as the Noctua is supposedly a much better cooler, am I doing something wrong? I have reapplied thermal paste a number of times and made sure that the mounting is correct.

Thanks

Solution
1 of 3 things might be happening:
1.) You did not put an adequate amount of thermal paste
2.) You did not firmly secure the cooler
3.) Fans are not plugged in.
Process of elimination I guess.

1) Okay I'll try once more, but I've already tried with multiple methods and different amounts of paste.
2) The cooler is secure, I'm sure of it.
3) The fan is connected and running at 100%

Thanks for the help

I reseated the cooler, and the temps are slightly better, but only on par with the Hyper 212 Evo.

I have contacted them, I'm pretty disappointed considering I bought the cooler to overclock further and I've had to decrease the overclock. Hopefully I can get a replacement/refund sent out.
