Noctua NH-U14S TR4 air cooler or CoolerMaster MasterLiquid ML360 RGB TR4 Edition All In One Liquid CPU Cooler ?

Both seem to have full size and rectangular Threadripper Heat spreader plate contact plates

But with the threadripper likly to be turboed in rendering and encoding a lot of the time which would be better likewise if I upgrade the processor to a 3970x or higher at a later date?

The coolermaster option looks like a standard asetek pump, which works best with AM4 and LGA1151, but with a larger metal plate. It's not terrible, but it's certainly not great. The U14S on the other hand has heatpipes contacting the whole top surface, but has less cooling power. I think you should go with the coolermaster AIO because the 360mm rad should still do better than the 140mm heatsink despite the strange contact with IHS.

Nope. Not ours. And did you catch ASUS ROG showed their concept TR4 AIO cooler at CES? Massive, full coverage and yes that is Asetek. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/asuss-new-threadripper-concept-cooler-at-ces

Definitely go for liquid cooling with Threadripper. Check this for a nice and recent addition to the age-old air vs liquid debate

Oh that's my bad. I looked at the block and thought it was just a bit too small to cover the whole IHS, and assumed it was asetek. I agree that water cooling is definitely necessary though.
