Question Noctua nh-u9s

Hi, just upgraded my PC motherboard, processor, ram and m.2. I upgraded to the i7 13700k and I'm using the Noctua nh-u9s. I noticed that it gets pretty hot with the cooler and I assume it's because it's a single fan as well as not being the biggest cooler. Prime made it go right up to the high 90s fairly quickly. Plan on getting another fan to attach to the heat sink but will that be enough or should I really go bigger?

If MCE(Multi Core Enhancement) is enabled, higher operating thermals are expected. It's an overclock.
If ABT(Adaptive Boost Technology) is enabled: "Opportunistically increases all-core turbo frequency when current, power, and thermal headroom exists. Works below a temperature limit of 100°C."
So consider turning those off if they are on, or try lowering the max turbo power limit; you can use hwinfo to see how high power use normally gets, and start from there.

If it'll make you feel better, you can get a bigger cooler. I think a second fan wouldn't get very far here.
Nothing can be recommended without at least knowing what the case, ram, and motherboard are(for clearance reasons).

Noctua has a really wonky "off standard" way of what they call rating their coolers by a measure other than TDP (which can also be worthless).

I use one of these 9 versions in the Chromax black style for an 11600K and it can BARELY keep it tamed on pure stock clocks riding a B chipset. Could not deal with the idle temp of an 11900K, which would come as no surprise to anyone with consideration and thought processing ability. I LIKE Noctua a lot, I have two of their coolers and a few fans (I swapped to Arctic for those now) in use right now and countless others over the years. They can SAY it will work all they want, considering it as 'marketingspeek' and sort of nod while you look away going Ehhhhrrrmmmm.....yeah!?! (sure)

Thank you for both your replies so I have a few things to adjust then. Also was just testing it with cinebench and it went straight to 100c. I did monitor it with hwmonitor as well and it seems to be continuously boosting all the time. Is there a setting to change that will stop this from happening?
My motherboard is a msi z790-p ddr4 and RAM is Corsair vengeance 3600x2
 
Consider that most of what you are going to do isn't a synthetic benchmark and you really shouldn't be seeing that kind of temperature out of a large part of what you may use the machine for. In games it will build up heat and throttle when it gets towards too hot. You might have seen that while running those benchmarks.

Unless you are up against a height restriction I would either return or replace this and put it on the parts shelf for something else, later. The "15" versions of their tower should be fine, something like the Dark Rock coolers or so forth.
 
ABT or Msi's version of MCE might be on, use the online manual or the booklet that came with the board to find it... or someone who has the board may just come in and walk you through it...

I don't like that NSPR thing they adopted. I still follow the speedometer looking thing that suggests how well the cooler holds turbo boosts.
I wish they shared what their test conditions were too.

So I've been doing a bit of digging, I'm now able to do cinebench and the temperature is now maxing at 95/97c instead of just going straight to the max. There is a setting called CPU lite load. Apparently it's an MSI thing. I've turned it from 12 to 1 and now it seems to be stable. I'm probably gonna turn the turbo clock speed down as well just to help a bit at least. I think I'm gonna have to probably go for a better cooler and I'm sure that will at least bring the temps down a bit.
