Noise comming from Kenwood 52x

I just bought this Kenwood 52x off of ebay and I think I was ripped off. Whenever the drive tries to read it makes 2 pulsed noise, then pauses for a second then repeats the noise, it does this several times. To the best of my spelling this is what the noise sounds like...WHEEEP, WHEEEP. I beleive that it is broken. Please Help!!!!
