Hi for the last few days, my AIO Pump (Coolermaster ML120L) has been making a grinding noise. View: https://imgur.com/a/WvNm4Z4

I confirmed that its the pump by eliminating each fan by disconnecting it from the motherboard -

The fan has been rotating at 2200 RPM and the CPU temps are normal. I ran the fan at MAX for 15 minutes yesterday after googling and bit and that stopped the noise for a few hours before it started again.

Does this mean the pump is on its way out. Should I replace it with its successor ML 240 L or a non AIO pump.

Thanks in advance

Most times noises are a bad sign but I would watch your temps the pumps seldom just completely fail.

Why are you using a AIO in the first place. Many 120 aio are not better than very inexpensive air coolers. Even 240 AIO are being beaten by the newer air coolers.

The only place I have seen a 120 AIO needed are for people building in those very tiny cases.

Since you are currently using a 120 AIO you do not have a cpu that actually needs a water cooler.

I would do nothing for now other than research which air cooler you think is best so you can buy quickly if you temps start to get bad or the noise irritates you too much. With a air cooler pretty much the only thing that can fail is a fan which are easily replaced.

Thanks for your reply . I had bought this PC off Pcspecialist and wasnt aware of the limitations of AIO. Is it fine to replace it with an air cooler like the Peerless Assassin or the 212 cooler master?

My CPU is i7 9700 and the the MB is Asus Prime B-365M which is MicroATX so I am a bit worried about the clearance on the motherboard.

I also have a GPU - RTX 360 TI but I guess that doesnt matter for the CPU cooler itself

Most better coolers will show you the clearances. Many have lists of compatible/incompatible motherboards.
Most times it is memory height that is the biggest issue. You also have to be check you case.

It pretty much is just a matter of checking all these numbers and then reading reviews to see which cooler seems best for you.

There are so many great air coolers it is really hard say which is best. It quickly gets into what one you like the appearance of the best.

Thanks mate, I checked and its listed as compatible. The RAM is 49mm so it could be tight but I think it will fit even though will get a bit crowded
