noisy fan

I have P4 Intel 845 chipset on ASUS motherboard with WinXP and Win2K dual boot. The fan is making lots of noises under Win2K while is very quiet under WinXP. I've checked Intel website, found that the cpu fan has variable speed. Could anyone tell me how to control/reduce the fan speed (to make it quiet) under Win2K? Thanks!
