[SOLVED] Noisy laptop fan - CPU too hot?

Hi all,

I have a pretty old Clevo custom-built laptop, which used to run silent except for under the heaviest of CPU loads. However a couple of years ago this changed, and now the fan seems to be on nearly all the time, even when idle.

I notice that the CPU core temps are around 60 celsius even when idle. The fan has been swapped for a new one, vents cleaned, thermal paste re-applied, etc. but nothing makes a difference to the problem.

Could something have happened to the CPU over the years, where it now runs too hot by nature, and the fan kicks in to compensate? Or else is it an issue with the fan regulation itself?

Thanks

Those are definitely abnormal temps. A CPU should be sitting on the 30-40s when idle and reach the 60s while on load. What CPU do you have?
If you cleaned everything and re-applied the thermal paste, it might be something related to the airflow. Maybe another fan (like the GPU one, if you have a GPU on your laptop) is blowing hot air into the CPU.
You should also check if those 60ºC are actually idle. Maybe Windows is doing some stuff in the background.
And no, I highly doubt a CPU could get hotter with time by itself, as long as you clean your PC every 6 months.
