This reminds me of the acquisition of ATI by AMD. AMD also paid way too much for the acquisition and gave up a lot of resources for research and designing new processor products. People who manage these major public companies aren't so smart a lot of time.

If it weren`t for ATI aquisition, at this time we wouldn`t have any AMD around here. AMD relies a lot on the GPU part of the company, in APUs and in Console market.

You're right they should have found another top-two graphics company that was willing to sell for that price. Oh wait...

It is more like Hector Ruiz run the entire cash rich AMD down. AMD was closer to Nvidia back then, acquiring Nvidia is probably the more logical choice, but Hector Ruiz refuse to give way the top position to Jen-Shun-Huang. Had AMD lead by Jen, it would be much diff now.

Actually ATi innovated far more than AMD currently does with GPUs. ATi helped develop the Unified Shader Model as well a number of other features we take for granted today in both GPU brands.

ATi were bad at one thing and that was drivers. Since the acquisition, their GPU drivers have improved drastically.

I guess they forgot to have a rainy day fund to keep them alive when things got bad. Companies need to have money saved for not if but when their market share dries up. They never think ahead about that.

Ohh man, I hope this means they don't drop Here for mobile devices instead pushing them onto cars solely. I use Here Maps to get around town since its highly accurate and gets around traffic.
