Hello, I was having a problem running "No One Lives Forever 2" so I copied my SAVES folder to somewhere else and reinstalled the game. The game now works but though I replaced the SAVES folder with my old one, the game doesn't see 'em; it just starts me from the beginning again. Any ideas on tweaking the game to see my old saved games? THANKS.

Now there's a game I'd forgotten about!

Try having a look in the registry to see if there is anything on save game locations. Should be in something like hkey local machine/software/monolith productions/no one lives forever.

Hopefully in there will be the save game location, and you never know, you might find a clue there why it's not picking up your saves.

Not wanting to teach you to sick eggs or anything, but are you sure you put the saves in the right place? You've done a save on your new installation and it appears in the same directory as the old ones? How about creating a new save, renaming it, and then rename one of your old saves to the newly created save files name? Worth a crack! Make sure you take a backup of the old ones first obviously!

-- THANKS! I'll try the registry thing right now. I replaced the SAVES directory with my old SAVES directory and checked to see that all the sub-directories had the same structure. All I got was a message that my "new" first save was unavailable. I THINK it has to do with the game creating a new "profile" for me (which somehow, links to the saves), though I never bothered to create a profile for myself. I hope to find clues in the registry, which I've never fooled with. (I'm playing NOLF and other old games because my old computer won't play the neat new games; I even tried a new graphics card but it wouldn't work.) Thanks again.

Oops. Wife reminded me that we're leaving to visit her (very nice) mum (today) for CDN Thanksgiving and I hadn't even started thinking about packing. So regedit (etc., and game playing) will have to wait for a week.

Back from Manitoba; tried regedit and editing various config items to no avail. Starting over. Sigh. Wish I had a computer that would play more modern games. Game makers shouldn't push the graphics envelope so hard. Thanks again.
