Hello all.

My computer makes this weird semi high pitched but not whiny humming sound. I have tried stopping all of the fans except for the PSU's, and none helped. I have also tried turning off my mechanical hard drive in Windows to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea where the noise could be coming from? It has occurred since I got the pc 3 years ago but it only started bothering me just now because I recently got open headphones.

Specs are as follows:

Bitfenix Prodigy case (M-ITX version)
Intel Core i7 3770 (non k)
Thermalright True Spirit 120 with stock fan
AsRock H77M-ITX
ASUS Direct Cu II GTX 770
2x4gb RAM
Rosewill Fortress 550W
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1Tb
OCZ Vertex 4 64gb SSD

Fan configuration:
Bitfenix Spectre 230mm (front intake)
Noctua NF-A14 PWM (rear exhaust)
Thermalright stock fan on CPU cooler

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am positive it's the hard drive. I had the same drive in my PC and can attest to its loudness, especially if placed in a metal case which will amplify the noise via resonance.
If your OS is on the SSD, turn off your PC and unplug the drive entirely before booting up again. It will confirm whether or not the drive is to blame.

Turns out it was the hard drive. Guess windows didn't turn it off after all. Thanks a bunch! Any tips on how to silence the hard drive?

The mounting system on the prodigy has these pins that go into the side screw holes of the HDD. The pins have rubber washers on them, but the noise is still very much present. Am I better off getting a different case or ditching the HDD?
