Hi I'm having issues with my rig. It keeps rebooting with high graphics cycles.
my rig:
- i7 4770k
- RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1866
- ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer LGA 1150 Intel Z87
- PNY - Enthusiast Edition NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 2GB GDDR5
- Sparkle gold class 850w psu (80plus)
- SB Recon3D Fatal1ty Pro.
- SSD 256 + 5 sata hdds + sata raid card with 2 sata hdd
- Seidon 240m water cooling
- 4 fans, fan controller/card reader, BD-r unit.
- cintiq 24hd 2k res for monitor, and 1080p vizio tv for gaming.

according to PSU calculator I'm fine with 850w. I'm not overclocking.

I tested:
- Prime95 (all test passed ok for at least 30min) no high temps
- Memtestx86: all test passed
- Furmark: crashes, temp gpu around 140f.
- skyrim heavely modded (but a stable release) crashes in about 5min of gameplay (@140f)
dirt showdown, plays fine most of the time. random reboots.
- rarely had any win reboots on photoshop, chrome, etc. (usually after one of the reboots mentioned with games or fur)
- also reseted the MB BIOS, I can't not get the bios update to work, it actually corrupts the eeprom,

Win8 problems:
- installed win 8, then used a 8.1 key (original) I used 8 thinking the key was good, but it was already used on my mom laptop, bought win 8.1
- having issues installing apps, some installiview wont even start installing while copying files.
- nvidia drivers installs, but hangs on updating experience at 100%, after reboot it was updated.

Things I will try after comments and things that I'm worried:
- worried about being PSU, MB, or GPU related, probably GPU, still under warranty, but under RMA :( with PNY, PSU seems ok according to the other tests.
- I have to re install windows from scratch, see if it helps in any way.
- Is there any other test for the PSU?
- any way to know if the z87 is overclocking without me knowing?

any advice?
thanks in advance

Solution
As for the OS, reformat the drive and reinstall the OS and use the new code, not the one from moms laptop.

the board should not be OCing anything on its own. Everything is set to a default setting when first assembled so unless you have changed it, there is no worries about OCing.

After rereading your post I saw this "- nvidia drivers installs, but hangs on updating experience at 100%, after reboot it was updated." if the drivers do not install properly it can and will cause the system to crash. Fix teh OS issue first then move on to stability testing with a good base.
Please use the Celsius scale when referring to temps, Thanks. Since the crash is happening when stressing the GPU start with uninstalling the GPU driver and reinstalling. If this does not work then either the GPU is bad or the PSU is bad. If you have a different PSU try that one, If you have a different GPU try that. IF the issue disappears with the replacement you have most likely found the issue.

IF replacement is not an issue and the GPU is under warranty try sending it in, RMA it.

Thanks bguner, I definitely will do everything you recommend, the only thing I can use for GPU replacement is the onboard video gpu, is that OK to use?.
It will take me a while, but I intend to do a clean install win 8.1, then only install the GPU and stress it, see if it hangs.

it is usually best if you can swap out for hte same exact GPU, this is usually not possible, but if you are having issue with a Discrete GPU it is best to test with another Discrete GPU and not an iGPU. You can try it though, you never know it may help eliminate the GPU being at fault. It won't hurt to try it.

After the install of the OS be sure to install all motherboard drivers along with the GPU driver. This will give you the best chance of passing the stress tests.

I'm going to do the re-install, and check the GPU.. about event id 41, I did have some in the event log, also a lot related to nvidia driver that stopped working. Quick question, event id 41 is only realted to PSU?, if the computer overheats and turn itslef off or reset, wouldn't it be an event id 41 too?, most of the time bugchecks are 0x00.

Btw I have played games with no issues, only not high end graphics games, also used 2 monitors, hd movies, maya, photoshop etc..

sometimes it can be the northbrigde voltage cauiseing crashes under stress. Since I have not OCed an Intel in a few generations I can not say what voltages are usually close to stable for Intel. In fact they dont even call it a north bridge anymore. They call it something totally different, begins with "D" has a 3 letter acronym but for the life of me I cant remember what they call it.

EDIT: it is called IMC my mistake, I was thinking of what they call the hyper transport for Intel

The Nehalem microarchitecture moves the memory controller into the processor. For high-end Nehalem processors, the X58 IOH acts as a bridge from the QPI to PCI Express peripherals and DMI to the ICH10 southbridge. For mainstream and lower-end Nehalem processors, the integrated memory controller (IMC) is an entire northbridge (some even having GPUs), and the PCH (Platform Controller Hub) acts as a southbridge.

Hi guys, sorry for the delay, have been busy with school. I already reinstalled win 8.1, seems to work more stable, but still getting hard resets.
under stress on games I haven't got any. They happen when my computer is idle.
I leave on downloading or just with the monitor off and hdd off at 20min.
One thing I forgot to mention, I did had issues with the bios some months ago, I manage to install the back up and worked again. I was trying to update the bios but I don't know why it gets corrupted every single time, with any install method.
I ran prime95 and furmark with good results, no reboots, no abnormal temps, also memtestx86 did all the passes ok.
Another error I have seen after the reboot, the memory seems to leak at 99%, I disable the fast boot and seems to help. right now I'm at 59% of memory usage with only filezilla downloading from my ftp, and chrome with 20 tabs opened.
I believe there is somethign wrong with the PSU, MB or might still be the GPU. :(

After longer testing, refitting everything, seems like I'm good to go... I Have manage to play some games with no issues on high settings, just in case I contacted PNY and asrock and they now about my concerns, and can >RMA both if something happens again.
