I have a not-new laptop (Intel 3rd Generation Core) from 2013. It has an SD card reader which I have never used, so I don't know if it's working. I bought a new SDXC card and inserted it into the slot, but neither Windows nor Linux see the drive. In Windows Device Manager I don't see an entry for SD card reader, but there are other ones it could be (generic USB somethingorother). I expected Windows Disk Management to treat it as a new drive, asking me to give it an MBR/GPT partition manager, but no. In Linux, neither GParted nor gnome-disk-utility see the drive. I thought SD cards since 2011 or so were supported, kinda like how really old PCs will usually run on an SSD, albeit SATA I. Is there a generational cut-off date?
