Non Steam Games not working

Hi guys,
Steam games are working absolutely fine, but when i launch non steam games i get a blank screen, "X has stopped working" box and then it closes. Any ideas?

when you say "non steam" do you mean games that are not made by valve or just any game that does not require steam to run?
some games (such as every total war game since Empire TW) may not be made by valve but still require steam to be on to run.

Sorry for not being specific, I mean games that dont require steam to run
