Nonexistent jpg.nomedia files

On my phone, Snapchat saves photos as .jpg.nomedia. I tried connecting my phone and laptop via USB and looked for the file that I can find on my phone but can't view. My computer doesn't even recognize that anything is in the respective folders, the files appear to be nonexistent. I am running Windows 7, my phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5. I tried the "show-hidden-file-name-extentions" in the control panel and it still didn't work.
