noob mouse question

ok, i know plenty about hardware and installation and overclocking and all that jazz, my question is gonna sound very stupid: what's the diff between a laser mouse and an optical mouse? and is one better than the other?

Laser uses a laser (think a laser pointer). Optical uses red light. This is why when you pick up a laser mouse, it turns the laser off so you don't burn out someone's eyeball.

Laser mice have a higher dpi rate than optical. Is it better? *shrug* My cousin really likes his laser and he's a big FPS guy.

My logitech M510 is good enough for me! I think it just really depends on the person who's using it.
