Noob need guidance (Amplifier vs. Active Speaker mistake)

I just got a vinyle turntable and a vintage amplifier with it. Ignorant, I thought I could just connect the amp to a set of active speakers I had.. I let you guess what happened next: amplifier died in 5 secs with a thin smoke string... I get that a (if not several) pieces are destroyed but I would really like to fix it by maybe changing some of the components.. It's a SONY TA-F5, would anyone have any advice regarding this, because I have no idea where to start..

You need to start by opening the amp and check it for visible damage. Do you know how to replace capacitors and other electronics? Without that skill you are as likely to break more things than fixing it.
