I have very little experience in overclocking. I do know from my research that MOST people agree the standard setups in the "EZ Mode" of the ASUS Bios deliver unnecessary voltages for the boost to 4.9-5.0 ghz.

I'm not trying to be gung ho...I just want to get to a solid OC without getting into dangerous territory.

Any advice on this build would be great, including what programs are best for stress testing. Thanks in advance.

Right now I'm only running the base 4.7 GHZ turbo option via the ASUS mobo. My voltage is steady at 1.280. Idle Temps are between 39-41 C on average. Stress test boosts those temps to 71-72 C. Is that an acceptable range or is that considered too hot?

Like I said...I'm not super experienced in acceptable temps, etc. for CPUs and I know 8700ks run pretty hot regardless. Just finished off a session of IL-2 Sturmovik in VR and the temps didn't get above 74 C. If the idles temps around 40ish are ok, then I think I'm pretty happy at the base 4.7 turbo boost.

Thank you. I rolled with an i5-4670k and GTX970 that did great for me since 2013. Once I got an Oculus Rift, I decided it was a good time to upgrade. My Hyper Evo has done a solid job for me since then and if these temps are ok, then I see no reason to spend more $$ on cooling if it's not necessary.
