Hi everyone , I'm sure this is a very common question but I just want to know is it normal if a MSI GTX 980ti 6G exceeds 85°C under load when playing games. I'm a bit concerned and thanx in advance for the info , appreciate it .

P.s.- I live in a tropical country so yea it's pretty damn hot and humid every now and then . I want to know is it safe if a GPU exceeds the above mentioned temp. or is the high temp. slowly damaging my GPU ?

Solution
Safe is 90C, but you really should look at keeping it under 80C. Look into setting up a custom fan curve in MSI afterburner, raise each point 10-20%.
I know that GPU temps of 84 degrees and fine, but I'm not sure about above that. I'm sure that GPU will throttle itself for self preservation, so my biggest concern would be just that. I recommend that you download MSI afterburner or Precision X and adjust the fan curve, so that the processor is kept a little cooler, while still maintaining a reasonable sound level from the fan.

I am using a NZXT Phantom 820 case and I use MSI command center to keep my fan speeds on automatic (smart mode). My GPU never reached 90°C , I just want to know and make sure what's the highest safest temps. when under full load.

I am using MSI afterburner for monitoring GPU temps. and turned on the Custom fan control. My GPU stays under and at 40°C when idle but I just want to know what's the safest, highest temp. for a GPU when under full load.

Thanx for the help , appreciate it . But I would appreciate it even more if you could upload a screenshot showing how you set your fan curve as I've never done it before . Thanks in advance , cheers :)

That's awesome mate but you see the country I live in , watercooling hasn't really been introduced on a large scale if you know what I mean . And ordering watercooling kits from abroad is really expensive for us but will keep your advice in mind , cheers :)

Alright , will give it a go , thanx again and cheers :)

Hi, Yeah I know its a bit expensive, I live in Ireland and everything has to be shipped from abroad. ill be honest, its hard work but worth not check your temps every two mins. Hope you get sorted anyways.

BTW bro , is it normal if my GPU usage reaches 99% when gaming or will it damage the GPU ? My gpu is 980ti.
