Normal temp for overclocked i5 3570K under water cooling (corsair H60)?

Hi Guys,

I recently installed a Corsair H60 (2013 edition) in my system (replaces Cooler master Hyper 212 Evo) and i notice that my cpu idle temp hovers in between 40-45 degrees Celsius. With the air cooler it was about the same. Under load the CPU temp goes to 70-75 degrees. Note that I do live in a tropical country and at best the ambient temp is about 25 degrees. My CPU has a 800 Mhz overclock from the stock speed of 3.4 so it currently runs at 4.2 Ghz. I know that this will also factor in with the heat output. I was frankly expecting better temps with water cooler, but the main reason I got it was to make my system quieter and also to remove that huge air cooler from my system.

Thanks in advance for your help on this guys.

Hey Chitradev,

I'm not like your idle temps, is that with anything running in the background? If so, close all your programs and only leave your CPU monitoring software up.

For your load temps, they are pretty good- I get 70 - 75 on an Evo with an 3570k at stock, and I'm in the middle of Canada- so thats pretty good :)

As an recommendation, see if you get your H60 changed, I would recommend getting an NH-D14 instead, or maybe saving up for a dual radiator AIO, like the H100i or the Swiftech H220.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your response. I tried taking off my overclock and my CPU idle temp ran at 25 degrees, so it looks like the overclock is the culprit. I ordered another fan for my H60 to convert it to a push/pull setup, so hopefully that makes a difference. I did use arctic sliver as my thermal transfer compound and I did clean the old thermal paste off my processor and corsair cold plate by using isopropyl alcohol. My case does not have room for the H100i or H220 and i really don't want to have to put back in an air cooler.
