Hi,

I just got a new rig about a month back. It has the following components:

Phenom II 720 BE
ECS A790GXM-AD3 Board (had no other option)
4GB (2GB x 2) Corsair XMS3 1333 DDR3 Memory 9-9-9-24
640GB WD Caviar Green
Cooler Master CM690 Chassis
ASUS 650W PSU

I couldn't find the GPU I was looking for in the market so that is on hold right now.

The problem is with the operating temperatures of the System. The BIOS shows the CPUs at 45 degrees usually and AMD Overdrive show them running at 41 degrees Celsius. Everything is at the stock setting right now and I'm running Windows 7 with the latest drivers. I was actually going to Overclock the system but stopped when I saw these temperatures.

Are they normal for a 720 BE, given that i'm in Pakistan and its summers here (normal temperature is usually around 40-45 degrees during the day and around 35-38 degrees during the night).

I would like some insight on the temperatures and would like to know if I should go ahead with the overclock. I was aiming to hit 3.2GHz with the stock cooler.

Well given that you are using stock cooler and its hot in Pakistan during the summer the temp you see is alright. You can get an aftermarket cooler to bring down the cpu and try to increase the air flow in your case if possible.

Dont, worry 41-50c is normal specially if you live in a hot area....Just make sure it does not go over 59-60c. Try to get an aftermarket cooler if you are going to do any overclocking at all......

Thanks for the tip guys.

Out of curiosity, I did overclock my processor to 3.2GHz with the Vcore at 1.45V and NB running at 2.2GHz. It idles at around 50 now and goes over 60 when stressed, so I decided not to go ahead with the overclock as it wont do any advantage anyways till I get a new GPU.

One thing I wanted to know was that can I get my RAM timings to something better then 9-9-9-24? I tried to take them to 8-8-8-24 but the system wouldn't POST. Had to clear the CMOS to get it to work again.

Well you may have to increase your RAM voltage for that but generally since you have DDR3 RAM already there is no point in OCing it. Your RAM is more than fast enough no need to touch it. Also your cpu voltage is too high, thats the voltage that I run my 720 BE with 4th core unlocked at 3.52 GHz. For 3.2 Ghz you shouldn't need more than 1.4 V at max.

I couldn't get the fourth core to work at all. System would crash as soon as I windows would boot up.

I lowered the Vcore to 1.35 now and the system is stable at 3.4GHz right now. Temperatures are around 37 degrees too probably because its raining and its cool outside too.

I'll get an aftermarket Cooler to see how much higher can I go. What are good brands for a Cooler. We mostly have ASUS and Cooler Master here.

^ those are some cool looking heatsinks !

I like how they close up the sides to dierct the airflow, that will drop temps like 2 degrees!

im supprised that those heatinks that are so close to the best dont do that to push it up to the #1 spot.

Yea, people underestimate the Asus coolers... The only reason they are not as popular as other collers is due to the fact that they are $$$$. Thats the reason the AC line is in front at the moment. (BANG-4-BUCK)

Yeah, like the designs.

But im just wondering why other companys dont go for the fan "case"

And why dont they lapp it themselves.... *sigh*

These are all the things that could help them get that extra 5 degrees that would make them #1.

sorry for hijacking the thread. [:jaydeejohn:4] :pt1cable: :pt1cable:

Thanks for the response guys.

I will move the PC into my bedroom which is maintained at 24 degrees. That would help I guess.

As far as the ASUS cooler designs go, I guess it is just depends on the company itself. ASUS puts out marvelous products though we do tend to ignore them. Like I can't find any ASUS PSU on NewEgg which was kinda surprising for me cuz they make excellent PSUs.

running a 720be right now with an oc to 3.5Ghz and a vcore of 1.45. With the stock cooler my temps usually range at about 35 idle and 50 under load.
