Hey all i recently upgraded from a 1080 to a 1080ti and im wondering if its normal to get sometimes as low as 40fps in Tombraider when running at ultimate settings at 4k with double buffer vsync enabled.

Absolutely. I get dips into the 40's in some areas with 1080 ti's in SLI. Check CPU utilisation. Is it in the Geothermal valley?

Also, try turning off vsync, as this will cause it to dip to 30 fps if you drop below 60 at all (even if its only to 58/59). Try using adaptive sync in the nvidia control panel, as this just turns off vsync below 60fps.

o sorry Im not referring to rise of the tome raider..im referring to the one before it "Tombraider" i thought i made that clear. but. its not just this game though i noticed it very badly in doom when i was playing a team death match. so im a bit conserned. im using cam software to monitor wast in game. il have a look at utilisation and report back.

Ah ok. Sorry about that, I'm so used to people asking about RotTR these days. Are you running SSAA 4X? That would essentially be running the game at 16k, which is insane. Dial down to fxaa or no aa at all, and see if that improves it. Also, run Doom in Vulkan instead of OpenGL, it will massively improve performance (see: http://www.pcgamer.com/doom-benchmarks-return-vulkan-vs-opengl/2/)

nope i have aa off. the settings that seem to give me the dips are shadows and hair.. if i run everything at max with shadows on normal i get less dips but still dose not maintain 60fps.... and doom i have not tryd with vulkan as i got worse performance running in vulkan on my 1080 then i did with open gl. whats wierd is with my 1080 i had no stutter or anything.it was totaly smooth..this is not the case with this new card when i tryd multiplayer. i did not try single player though.

Huh. That seems like it would be more than plenty for SLI, never mind just one. Try turning tressfx off. It is heavily optimised for AMD cards, not nVidia. Idk about Doom though, I'll try to find out what I can though.

diden't no about the treefx being for amd but even turning that off i still get fps drops in some areas. i did get doom to work better though..turns out it was set to vulkan and i diden't even realise it...set it to open gl and there is no drops now. im wondering its just down to bad optimisation from that game.

Huh. Odd. I get far more stable performance with Vulkan. Higher averages with OpenGL, but more dips and lower .1% lows. Glad it works for you though.

Just check the gpu temps during the fps dips in Tombraider, as well as the clockspeeds using HWInfo and an overlay of some sort - your choice.
