Hi guys,

I've started to actually use my AMD rig after I gave my Intel rig to my brother and found a few little issues... Firstly it was a budget build and I've brought it to the IT hypermart today to get some upgrades.

Specs:
AMD FX 8350 (NOT Overclock. I just suck at it. Would really appreciate any help given though 😀 )

ASUS M5A97 R2.0

CM Seidon 120V

4x4GB Kingston Fury RAM (1600, CL10) - Just upgraded today

Sapphire HD 7790 Dual-X OC (I've maxed out as far as I can go on this card and I know with only 1GB of VRAM I can't do much but components in Malaysia are just pure expensive)

Kingston Hyper X 3K (120GB) - OS and important apps

WD Purple (2TB) - Just upgraded today I know the Purple is used for CCTVs but I can't afford a black for reliability so a purple is probably the way out. I will be using this for my main video editing files and documents.

Seagate Baracuda (1TB) I'm only using this for downloads since I heard it's pretty damn unreliable. Don't know if that's true but better move docs onto something more reliable (My new Purple 😀 ) than lose every single damn crap lol...

CM SilentPro M2 620W PSU

CM K282 Ultra cheap "gaming" case (It's cheap but only has 2 fan slots which sucks... Guess you pay for what you get...

And then I realised a small little issue when I rendered my first video out of premiere pro. My CPU has a stock clock of 4.0 but after the first 5 minutes, I saw the clock speed dropping down to 3.96, the 3.9, gradually 3.8, then 3.7, and stopped at 3.4 GHz. I am assuming that this is CPU throttling and checked the CPU temperature but it was barely 50 in an ACed room. As a 14 year old, curiosity made me touch every single part of the mobo and when I touched the north bridge, I thought that I burnt my finger... Like I touched that for less than a second and pulled back instantly, inches from having my finger sliced from the rad fan mounted right next to the NB heatsink.

Anyways, is there any way that I can improve the cooling of my NB? And if any of you guys own this particular mobo, it would be greatly appreciated if you could guide me on ocing my CPU to at least 4.5 GHz. Out of curiosity, will OCing void my CPU or mobo warranty?

Hello,

As you have plenty of free space around the CPU socket, try to mount an additional fan in the NB heatsink vecinity (the Traditore solution is better, but you will need some additional skills for taking off the old heatsink, because it is tightly fitted and sometimes even glued to the NB).

hi traditore, sorry for the late response but thx a lot the oc guide looks pretty damn good, will try it one day... u see the issue is that i live in malaysia, making getting these rare heatsinks almost impossible considering tat i have already tried to find them. i was wondering if there's anyway that i can mount a small fan (maybe 50-60mm) ontop of the current heatsink to help cool more efficiently. if so, would you recommend me pulling air out of the heatsink or pushing air at it?

hi cristi,
even with a low profile aio, it is almost impossible to mount a little fan there considering that there's practically no space, at all. I was thinking of getting a bigger fan and just blowing air at it / pulling air out from it. that might be around a 90mm mounted above my mobo near the heatsink. any ways that i can do that without going into the workshop? remember im a 14 year old xD

That heatsink has an unusual shape and it seems it is indeed glued to the NB, so I wouldn't recommend to try this; also, in case the motherboard got any damage, the marks from the NB could lead to RMA refusal.

You can try to find a solution to position the fan as this:

You can use some double adhesive tape and fix the fan right on the video card (on that area, the graphics card's PCB is quite empty), or use the screw from the middle of the motherboard to support the fan .

hi cristi thanks alot for that suggestion and yeah you're right that part of the pcb is empty but the part of the pcb which is empty is actually near the ram and the spot to mount the heatsink would be on the tiny transistors of the gpu, which im assuming won't work. and will using any glue on the pcb corrode / damage the pcb itself? or will it void the gpu warranty?

If you want to use some glue, it can and it will corode the PCB, the components terminals and the soldering. I was saying to use the double adhesive tape because the adhesive is not very strong and will not do any harm.

that would be pretty damn hard considering how tiny and compact my case is. the cable management is awful because there's no clearance on the back and i've tried my best to achieve the best cable management possible.

i've came up with this diy solution:
i have a cooler master laptop cooler and i took that apart, took the fans out and now sorta "mounted" them between the cables. istill dk how to ground them bcuz there are little metal grilles on them which when i accidentally contacted the mobo, i got this spark which shut the entire system down. any tips on how to like make sure there's no static electricity in them? btw my pc works fine atm dun wry

unless you put a fan really close to the heatsink there is not much use of that. or have you got rid of throttling? you got some bad airflow in a case if even some lame solutions helped a lot.

you really should just find another smaller fan which you will be able to attach. and reconsider airflow in general.

Unfortunately, your side panel has the air intake positioned under the graphics card, so it will not help you. Also, the motherboard remains the same, so better airflow is not likely to change anything because of the tight clearance between the NB and the GPU; the fluids, air included, have the nasty habit to go for the minimum resistance path, so you must make some airducts to direct the airflow towards the NB heatsink.

EDIT: you could move the upper HDD and the SSD to the lower HDD slots, mount the fan under the DVD-RW and make an airduct to direct the airflow right towards the NB, something like this:
