Hi Guys,

This is my first post in this forum please help me out.

Few years back I configured my WGR614 wireless router as access point mode by switching off its DHCP server and performing other necessary steps. Now I am not able to access the setup page of my router

http://www.routerlogin.net (mentioned at the back of my wireless router )

Following is the block diagram of my current LAN setup (http://imgur.com/pLGpwez) :

I am able to browse the internet smoothly, the only reason that I wanted to access the wireless router setup page is to change the password o my wifi for security purposes.

I have tried following by reading various posts on various forums without any success:

1. Tried to restore the router to factory setting
2. Run tracert command, results were astonishing as in results the first hop is registered with my adsl modem (192.168.1.1) and there is no trace of my wireless router in path.
3. Used tools like ip scanner to get the default gateway for my wireless router
4. Connected my laptop and wireless router to get default gateway (used LAN1 port in first try and WAN port in another try)

Please help me out as changing password for wireless network is very imp specially when 2-3 neighbours are aware of my wifi's password :)

Thanks in advance!!

Solution
It should make sure you follow the reset instructions exactly. Otherwise just assign say 192.168.0.100 statically to your pc and see if you can get to 192.168.0.1. I forget what version number they went to 192.168.1.1 for the default ip but I suppose you could try that too.

When factory reset does not work then you need to go to forums on dd-wrt or something. These guys know how to recover messed up routers.
Since it didn't mess your network up completely when you did a factory reset we can assume this is a older device that still uses 192.168.0.1 for the default ip. If you had the later version those use 192.168.1.1 which would directly conflict with your network.

Since you already messed with the factory settings you best bet it to disconnect this from everything, plug a pc into one of the lan ports. You now want to either set the pc to a ip in the 192.168.0.x subnet or allow it to learn one from the router.

You will want to redo all your configurations and set a new ip in the 192.168.1.x network you will remember.

When I connect my PC/Laptop directly with my wireless router using LAN ports then my router doesn't assign a ip address to my pc and default gateway appears blank on running ipconfig command.

Thanks bill001g for your valuable inputs. All this mess was due to non functioning of reset button. So I decided to open up my router and manually short the circuit for 10 sec to perform reset and wola it worked an my stupid netgear router returns to factory settings 😛
