Hi,

I used imgburn software to create bootable disk of Windows 7 as mentioned in following thread.

http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=11194

However, when I tried to boot from the disk, I got message- 'Unreadable boot configuration data'.

Please check the link below for the screen shot I took while writing DVD.

Though the screen shot shows error while verification, I got successfully completed message once I inserted the auto ejected CD drive after write operation.

Please let me know what can be the problem?

Solution

Install the Windows 7 USB/DVD tool from Microsoft:

1. Click the Windows START button, and click WINDOWS 7 USB/DVD DOWNLOAD TOOL in the ALL PROGRAMS list to open the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.

2. In the SOURCE FILE box, type the name and path of your Windows 7 ISO file, or click BROWSE and select the file from the OPEN dialog box. Click NEXT.

3. Select USB DEVICE to create a copy on a USB flash drive or select DVD disk to create a copy on a DVD disk.

4. If you are...

Instead of making the ISO, try downloading the ISO from the official links in this thread in the w7 forums:
http://www.w7forums.com/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads-t12325.html

Use the USB-DVD tool to burn to ISO:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Then let me know if it works.

Probably. I tried the same thing with the Windows 7 preinstalled that came with my PC, didn't work. Found that thread, clean installed with a usb flash drive (couple months later with a DVD) and I had no problems.

4. If you are copying the file to a USB flash drive, select your USB device in the drop-down list and click BEGIN COPYING. If you are copying the file up to a DVD, click BEGIN BURNING.

When your Windows 7 ISO file is copied onto your chosen media, install Windows 7 by moving to the root folder of your DVD or USB flash drive, and then double-click Setup.exe.

The usb/dvd tool is specifically used to make a bootable dvd. simply open the tool, pick the iso file, then burn to disk. Then you can boot from the DVD.
