I have a Seagate 320GB and it was working fine for a while but it got stuck while copying files to my new Dell laptop on windows 8. So I had to remove it to stop it. When I reconnect it, it made some sound and it doesn't show up in Windows explorer. I can see it in my notification.I used the "troubleshoot" help and the message was that " the device is using usb 2 and my laptop has usb 3 port. " When I connect it to my old laptop, the same problem, so now I cant access it at all.

Ok I have seen this before unfortunately it can be any number of things causing it to this.

My first suggestion plug it in and go to device manager (right click bottom left hand of the screen and go to device manager) now look under other devices or just other, and if there is a device with a little yellow triangle there then that means there's no driver to run the external drive

Please check this and let me know what you find out
