Not booting from ssd or nvme

Hi all, my brother bought a computer from someone and it won't recognize the nvme m.2 or older ssd as a boot device. Using bootable thumb drive i have installed the OS on both. The motherboard is an Asus z270-p, ssd is a pny, and nvme is a crucial m.2. If I put a ssd in from his previous computer it recognizes and boots from. Kind of lost at this point but I wouldn't doubt it's something simple I've missed. Thanks in advance!

Put only one or the other drive in it, and do the reinstall again.
Full wipe and reinstall.

Which specific Crucial drive is it?

It's an MX300 M.2. I've tried one at a time as well. The bios sees them but won't recognize that they can be used to boot.

in your bios see if it's on ide or ahci. it should be set to nvme if you want to boot off it. bios should be in uefi mode.

It's on Intel raid settings. It has an option for ahci but no nvme.

the usb stick also needs to be created for UEFI install.

It will let me install windows on the nvme but when it restarts to load windows it won't boot from it

I followed the video instructions, and I end up back at the beginning of the windows install

The MX300 m.2 drive is not PCIe/NVMe.
It is a SATA based m.2 drive.

this would explain why nothing seems to work.
you may want to restart from scratch.
install win10 with it on ahci mode.

I tried from scratch, it shows the crucial in boot priority but won't actually boot up, just puts me back into bios
