Hi all, I've ran into a huge problem. The thing is earlier today i was having a lot of problems with my HDD so i decided to wipe it clean and also do a fresh install of windows 10. However when it comes to changing the time zone and home country ect. the keyboard and mouse is not recognized at all. It works perfectly fine in the BIOS but as soon as windows takes over they become unrecognizable.. The keyboard and mouse both worked before i did the full reset on my PC but now it acts like they aren't even plugged into the ports. I have tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0 on my motherboard and still the same problem.
Any help at all would be a great benefit.

Solution
i've read that mate but nothing fixes it.

i have 5 USB 2.0 slots and 3 USB 3.0.

i have an AMD FX-6300 CPU
500GB HDD
8GB Corsair Veng RAM 1600mhz
R9 280 GPU
and an ASUS mobo, can't remember the model of it.

So windows is installed? or it stops working in the installer (I am a little confused right now, not sure how all drivers could be installed if you still doing the install)

if still in the installer, did you try all the usb 2 slots on back of case? you need to find ones controlled by chipset and not the extra ones attached to board by Asus. the front connectors aren't going to work, for instance.

if in windows, its how do you get past the logon screen?

http://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/37208-windows-10-clean-install-usb-3-0-problems.html they need to fix the usb 3 thing before usb 2 ports disappear off motherboards

This is the bit where the keyboard and mouse aren't recognized:

my keyboard and mouse work perfectly fine and the bios has identified that they are indeed plugged in, i can navigate with the mouse and keyboard within the bios but when windows starts it stops working.

EDIT: the keyboard and mouse have always been plugged into the USB slots which are directly connected to the motherboard. all ports have been tried.

Greetings, Daniel:

What Windows 10 version/build are you running?
Do you have some extra peripherals you can test?
You might find that Windows is installing a bunch of peripherals drivers and is taking a long time.

Cheers,

i wish i didnt have a 4k monitor (sometimes) and I wish that shot was vertical... though zoom helped a little.

thats first page of installer,

does BIOS say what motherboard you have? It might help work this out.

good idea, did you download a new ISO?

Im running Windows 10 professional 64-bit
i've tried using another mouse and keyboard and they didn't work either. currently i do not have any other peripherals connected to my pc via USB

sorry about the image but yes it is the first page of the installer. my motherboard is the M5A97 LE R2.0

what do you mean by this? when i first put the installer on the computer it was before Windows 10 came out, since then i haven't had to use the USB drive to install it. Before Windows 10 came out, if i did a full reset it would be okay and my peripherals would work as normal. However this is the first time i have attempted to reinstall windows since Windows 10 came out...

Upgraded from Win 8 to 10. this is the first problem i have experienced with windows 10 and i've had it since launch.

im really stuck on what i can do...

according to Asus you have 12 USB 2 ports, 6 at back, not 5.. not that it matters. they should all be attached to main AMD chip set, the usb 3 are the extras run off the asmedia software. still doesn't explain why all mice/keyboards don't work when plugged in. win 10 has USB 2 drivers, it just doesn't have USB 3. I don't know why its happening.

might sound like a silly question but is it possible to just install lets say, windows 7 through a bootable USB and that would override the current installer? reverting back to a previous OS might solve it but obviously i wouldn't have windows 10 anymore. what's your opinion on that.

NOTE: i did miss-count the amount of USB ports but i didn't think that really mattered.

well, your win 7 licence is now a win 10 licence so it may not work but its worth a try even if you then just update to win 10 over top of it. Anything better than not going anywhere.

if it doesn't I would ask Asus how you supposed to get Win 10 onto your motherboard.

Hello, Daniel:

If you have a Win7 license and PK, that might be the way out, and you can still upgrade to Win10 for free (untill July 29th). Also, you might want to go to the BIOS menu and change the HID and USB settings to 'Legacy'.

Best of luck,
GreyCatz.

where are these Legacy options located within the BIOS exactly?

Hello, Daniel:
Depending on your BIOS layout, go to the Devices tab and select USB Setup. You should now be able to Enable/Disable legacy support for your peripherals. I've used this feature many times successfully, especially with Windows 10 installation. Although I can't guarantee anything, it's worth a try.
Cheers,
GreyCatz.
