I have a laptop which is not charging when placed under load, but charges when it is under normal use(not gaming). Could this be a symptom of the power supply not supplying enough amps. so it stops charging when put under load? Or is this not possible?

Thanks.

Make sure his charger is rated the same and everything. If it's the same laptop as his then you should be fine.

So I would say drive over to your friend's and if that doesn't work, bring it to a computer shop. They will charge like $20 for a diagnosis.

I bought it used, but it should be relatively new since it was released in mid 2014. The previous user had not noticed the issues I am facing, possibly because they never placed it under high load?

Oh nice! Good laptop :)

In that case, contact Razer. This doesn't sound like a issue that we can deal with. It sounds more like a problem with either the battery, or the laptop charger itself. It might be something like the jack on it too..

So contact Razer (who usually has great support), and then tell them your issue. Don't mention buying it used.

This was their reply when I contacted them:

Since we are unable to verify the purchase information, this would be considered an out of warranty repair. If you are able to provide any proof of purchase, we can see if the system is still in warranty. This means that the cost of shipping to the repair center will have to be incurred on your end unfortunately. Along with this, once we receive the unit at our repair center, we will generate a quote once we run the initial diagnostics and send it to you for approval. If you approve the repair, we will take your payment and continue with the repair process along with sending out the unit back to you via 2 day shipping once it is complete. If you decline the repair, then we would need a $100 diagnostic fee to cover the diagnostics and return shipping costs before we can return the unrepaired blade back to you.

I personally think $100 to just look at the laptop is crazy. I didn't mention buying it used, just that I didn't have proof of purchase when they asked for it.

I was just looking to see if it's possible for the issue to be in the adapter before I maybe go ask my friend if I can drive over and borrow his charger to test lol.
