Not even USB boots

I recently created a thread about how my laptop wouldn't boot, and no matter what boot option I chose, it froze at the loading screen. I'm basically left with a laptop that only gets to the 'Starting Windows' screen, or 'Loading Windows Files' screen etc.

I have just used Rufus to create a bootable USB, with Windows 7 Home Premium. I changed the boot order to make sure that my USB drive was the boot device, and when it started to boot, it stuck at the 'Starting Windows' screen.

I'm not sure what this could be, an OS error, a HDD error, or both. Should I replace the HDD and install Windows on that? Looks like the only option I have...

If it doesn't make sense, then it's because I've rushed making this thread haha 😀

Reply if you know what's going on
Cheers :)

Solution

download small version linux like puppy, lubuntu, xubuntu etc and try it.i mean dont install it just plug it in to check whether ur laptop boots from it or not.
as i said booting from...
For some reason I think using third party programs can accidently create corrupt bootable drives ! 🙁

If you can get hold of a genuine Windows 7 or Win 8.1 disc and install off that.

It could also be (as mentioned above) your computer does not meet the recommended system requirements.

Good Luck :)

As you say, it stucks in Starting Windows or in Loading Windows Files. Here, windows loads files from HDD/USB to ram. It might be a ram problem. You should check it out by putting out and replacing the ram stick(s). If you can't, give it to a technician do it.

Also, in pre-built laptops and netbooks, BIOS is modified to block you from doing many things, such as overclocking. Rarely, it blocks you from boot, so you sohuld try to flash the BIOS if the first way don't work

Hope I helped

Firstly, my laptop has been fine for about 4 years. I'll have to try Linux as well. Should I try Puppy Linux to try for a RAM problem? Puppy Linux loads the OS to RAM, and if it fails mayb it could indicate a problem.

Secondly, Rufus is better than Windows' genuine bootable USB program imo, and also my hardwarr is definitely capable.

Thirdly, I think it could be a RAM problem as Windows loads the majority of the drivers.

And fourthly, yes there is a problem loading my OS from the HDD. That's what I'm trying to get assistance with.

since its booting from USB,it means you have made it right.
either you boot from USB or internal HDD,windows load important files in RAM,,whatever you see on screen is actually on RAM.
u have problem in booting from both external and internal device.. and booting from USB/cd does not involve internal hdd,(so it doesnt matter whether its corrupt on not)

clearly, either ISO is corrupt or there is malfunction in RAM,normally its very rare for ISO to be corrupt.(but this case cant be ignored)
so try using different ISO may be try linux(puppy is good) if problem persists then
change ur RAM i means try RAM from other working s/m before purchasing.

Well, my ISO came from Digital River, so I doubt the ISO is corrupt.

I could try to see if it is the RAM at fault, but I don't have any other machines that have laptop RAM. Keep in mind, PC RAM cannot go into a laptop, and vice versa.

If it is the HDD, I've had a pretty good idea in mind. I could swap my PS3 and laptop HDD's around... My PS3 needs the extra space anyway, but if I put the laptop HDD into my PS3, it could format it and I'll have another 400 GB. The PS3 HDD is working fine at the moment, so I'm sure I have a good drive for my laptop.

as i said booting from external device does not involve internal HDD(unless you start installing).
if it boots then there is problem in win7 iso.
so make bootable USB of win7 from other softwares(not rufus ) use ultraiso(go to my link) and give it a try..
still not then change ram.

Solution

yes,it wont take long to download these linux distros(try any) i believe it will work..
if there was any prbolem with your RAM then u wud have seen a blank screen.not even ur lappy logo..[2 times i had RAM failure]

Linux distros are like 300 MB right? Which distro would you recommend? I personally think Puppy, as that works on RAM so I can check to see if the RAM is a problem too

yes i have been hearing about puppy from very long time and its really small 161 MB try it out..

I have it on Virtualbox on my other machine, very nice OS.

I'll try Puppy on my laptop. If something happens I shall reply on here
