Question not getting fast download speeds but roommates PC shows him getting over 100mbps

As the title states my roommate is getting 100mbps download speeds while I'm stuck around 18mbps. We both use the same wifi and even the same netgear AC1200 (a6150) adapter. What's even weirder, is even when I hardwire into the AT&T modem/router I still only see 18mbps download speeds while his are over 100mbps and VERY fast. I've logged into router settings, tried matching his IP, done just everything I can think of. Would love some insight or help here.
