I have running from my router a 5m cat6 cable which then connects to a cat 6 Ethernet coupler. Then from that i have connected a 15m cat6 patch cable running into a 8 port netgear gigabit switch. My problem is that i dont get any internet speed above 100mb/s and i look at the port on the switch where the internet comes in and its orange. I also have running from my router another 5m cat6 cable to another cat6 coupler which then has another short ethernet cable attatched which runs to another computer (close to the router) and that gets 160mb/s internet download speed (speedtest.net). My question is why dont i get the same speed as the other pc near the router, i don't know if it has something to do with cable length or something any help would be apreciated as i want to get the speed i pay for on all devices in my house!

Thanks!

Solution
A PC connected directly to the router appears to get a 160Mbps connection.

Other devices (xbox and asus g750jh) that apparently go through a switch only see 100Mbps.

Ergo....something in there is a 100Mbps device. And it is almost certainly not the cable.
Surely if i plug all cat6 from my router into the gigabit switch the light that the internet is plugged into would be green and not orange all the devices plugged into the switch have green light on the switch indicators its just where the connection from my router plugs into the switch i get an orange light which i assume is affecting my speedtest results online making them not go above 100mb/s?

If your ISP speed is supposed to be 160Mbps...
And you're only seeing almost exactly 100Mbps...
And there is more than one device between the test machine and the actual router...

I would suspect that some device in there is only a 10/100 device.

What is the make/model of every device between the testing PC and the router that talks directly to the ISP?

I dont quite get what you are saying my pc is an asus g750jh which is plugged into the switch which then plugs into the router but a computer upstairs that plugs directly into the router gets 160mb/s easily i have an xbox 360 and an old hp dv7-6000 laptop plugged into the splitter aswell and the indicator lights on the switch are green for all of them so i think it must be a problem with the ethernet coupler maybe they have some limitations as to cable length because surely the light for my internet would be green on the switch! Thanks for the help btw!

What is the make/model of the switch? That is what I would suspect to be the issue. And you do NOT need a Cat6 cable. Cat5e will work just fine.
