Not-in-usage HDD as backup

So I want to backup all of my files (+-1TB). First I thought I will use cloud storage but that seems kinda expensive and I can't find the one that fits my needs. Then I had idea that I will buy 1TB HDD, copy my files on it, disconnect it from pc and put it somewhere. So my question is, is it safe to do that? Put my HDD somewhere where it won't move or anything? And if it is, what software do you recommend for moving files from 2 drives to 1 ?

Look at backblaze. 60$ a year, infinite backup and literally a couple clicks and it's good to go and you'll never have too look at it again.

Another option is idrive if you want some more tradtitional cloud features but still a good price but less storage (starts at 2tb).
