Not overclocking, still dropping frames

I don't know what to do now. I have nothing overclocked and I'm still dropping frames. Ever since I got this new motherboard, I can't play anything. Is my PC actually dying?


Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-H
PSU: 750W Thermaltake 80+ Bronze
CPU: A10 6800k (Richland)
GPU: GTX 970
RAM: 16GB
STORAGE: 2TB HDD

I'm basically asking if the things I have now will last. Everything is new except the HDD. Does old HDD's slow performance?

Your CPU will bottleneck that card. That's most likely why your experiencing drops. The card is too powerfull for your CPU to drive it.

The system is not a gaming machine per se, so if your asking if this is gonna last for gaming, i think you'll be left disappointed

No I don't think that CPU is bottlenecking that bad. A newer Ryzen or Intel chipset would help that 970, but we're not talking choppy stuttering bottleneck CPU performance here. Did you just swap out a dead motherboard for that A10 8600K CPU and everything else is the same? Were you running faster FPS prior to swapping out the motherboard?

Unless you replaced your old motherboard with the exact same model you should reinstall Windows. Changing motherboard without doing this can lead to stability and performance issues, in some cases windows won't even boot.

I did not reinstall Windows with this new mobo. I guess I could try that later on.

I was running ok with my old mobo. When I got this new mobo, I got great boot times and everything was perfect! Then after 2-3 days, it dragged like hell! It made no sense to me how something so great went so bad in such a short amount of time.

EDIT: I did swap out a stock mobo for a new mobo and everything else is the same.
