Not reading cd but able to burn

Hello,

My CD player on XP do not read the CD but when I insert CD the pop up appears as burn but no read. Please help

Hi

to see if problem is a hardware fault or software / registry corruption try booting up from bootable CD or DVD

eg Windows XP CD . Vista or 7 DVD, Linux disk such as parted magic or rescue disk etc

If you can boot up from CD & DVD then hardware fault unlikely

For software / registry problems go to Microsoft and search for upper filter driver problems
and let Microsoft fixit fix your registry
