not shutting down

i brought a new laptop toshiba which is i7 running window 8 .but when i plays game and shut down the moniter will be off quickly but the power is on .but when I don't play games it shut downs quickly .so my question is why it wont turn of the power when I play games and shutdown only the monitor will be off help pleases
