What purpose is the CHK File:
File0001.chk Have about 40 +.

Can they be removed to free up some HD on old Win95 puter ?
Is this produced by ScanDisk ? Not sure. :((

TIA

They're "Lost Fragment" files--pieces of files that got separated from their
file and were found by Scandisk. Yes, if you have no intention of trying to put
those files back together (and it's not likely to be anything useful) then go
ahead an delete them.

Yes, they are made by Scandisk when it finds lost chains, and you select the option
to save them to a file. Once in a while, if you open them with Notepad or similar,
you can see readable text and get an idea what file they were part of, but usually
all that can be done is to toss them.
