Not sure how many connectors I should attach to my 1070 ti

So my 1070 ti gpu has a 6 pin connector and an 8 pin connector. I’m not sure whether I should connect just the 8 pin or both

Connect both.
Most power supplies use a 6+2 type plug, hold the little 2 pin part and larger 6 pin part together and insert both into the 8 pin socket ( it's usually a precise fit, even a little misalignment between the two plug parts will cause issues ).
For the 6 pin socket, just push the 2 pin part of the plug aside and insert the 6 pin part.
If the installed PSU does not have two PCI-E plugs, it's probably not suitable to power a GTX1070Ti.
