Hi there,

I purchased the Gigabyte TRX50 motherboard (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1798090-REG/gigabyte_trx50_aero_d_motherboard.html). I'm building a system based on an editing system by Puget Systems (https://www.pugetsystems.com/solutions/video-editing-workstations/adobe-premiere-pro/buy-249/).

The CPU will be a Threadripper 7970x and I would like 4 sticks of 32GB (128GB total) RAM. Puget recommends DDR5-5600 REG ECC. I found what I think is the TRX50 manual about compatible RAM but I'm not seeing anything for 128GB. I don't care where it comes from (Amazon, BH, Best Buy), I just need to be sure I'm buying the right sticks.

What should I be looking for?

Thank you so much!

-Stephen

Hey Stephen,

In this instance the best thing to do is look at the QVL for the mobo you bought. This will tell you what ram has been tested with, and works in multiple DIMM packs with your mobo and CPU of choice.

You can find the QVL here: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/TRX50-AERO-D-rev-10/support#support-memsup

Use the filters to choose the ram speed, and amount desired, and then look for what type of pack (i.e 4 x 16gb or whatever.).

This is the best place to start.

Edit: Although the CPU technically only supports speeds up to DDR5 5200, it will prob run much better with 6000mhz or higher.
