Hey guys, I build my first pc about a year ago, specs are as follows.
CPU: fx 6300 overclocked to 4.2Ghz
GPU: r9 280x +100Mhz overclock
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G43
Ram: 2x4Gb DDR3 1866
CPU cooler: H100i
PSU: 650W 80 PLUS Bronze
I realize now that I backed myself into a corner by going with AMD and would like to be switching over to Intel and Nvidia. My CPU was bottle necking my GPU a bit so I overclocked it. Recently playing big title games I have noticed I am not getting the 60 fps at 1080p I would like (games like crisis 3, shadow of mordor, dying light, I am getting an average 50 fps dropping down into high 30's).. However, now my horrible choice of motherboard is holding back my CPU from being overclocked any further. Since I am in the market for a new motherboard I figured It would be worth my time to simply get an Intel board and switch over.
I am considering getting an i5 4690k along with an ASRock Z97 Extreme4. I am looking to overclock the 4690k to around 4.5Ghz, and was wondering if the board would be sufficient. (this board is on the cheaper side and I like the blue color that would suit my theme)
I would also like to be upgrading my GPU to a gtx 980, but being the poor college student I am I can't upgrade all at once. My choice would either be CPU and motherboard while I save for something like a gtx 980, or go for the 980 now and hope my fx 6300 doesn't bottleneck it while I save for the CPU and motherboard. I have gotten mixed opinions as to whether or not my overclocked fx 6300 will bottleneck a 980, what do you guys think?? Also which would you upgrade first and why? thanks for the help
