I'm putting together my first build and not sure about motherboard and psu choices. What do I choose to go with this and is this good?
Current parts:

CPU - Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

Memory - G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) Memory

Storage - Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card

Case - Corsair 350D Window MicroATX Mid Tower Case

How do you know what color a motherboard is, just by the pictures I assume? Would Asus be a good brand.

Asus is a great brand, always has been.

If you can I recommend getting a larger case, so you can get a full ATX board.
I highly recommend the ASUS Z97-A (Z97-AR if you dont like the color scheme) for the motherboard, and a quality PSU similar to those above.
If you must go mATX, the ASUS Maximus VI Gene Micro is very good.

What is your budget for the two?

Ok a microATX Z97 motherboard, what do you mean Devil's Canyon processor. Is that a good or bad thing.

look at options on Newegg. they've got pics from all sides, so you can see the design, layout, ports, etc. start from here and pick something. Gigabyte, Asus, ASRock are great. MSI and Biostar make good stuff too.

this link should give you a head start:

It's a good thing :) But Devil's Canyon or Haswell Refresh processors may not work on a Z87 motherboard without first updating the BIOS, which is why I would highly recommend that you just go for a Z97 and you definitely won't run into any of those issues.
