Hi I just got a new motherboard and wanted to test it so I stuck in the psu, some ram and my cpu/fan and plugged a hdmi cable in... I shorted the power on the mono to switch it on. The psu starts, cpu heats up and cpu fan also runs but no beeps or sign of anything on the monitor, is this a faulty motherboard or cpu or just a case I need a gpu installed? But still wouldn't I hear any beeps? Mobo is msi z87-g41 and cpu is i7 4770k

Your cpu comes with Intel® HD Graphics 4600
I dont think it needs to do an beep sound. If you can, test with an GPU installed. What power supply do you have?

I don't have a gpu at the moment as I'm buying parts when I have the money and saving the gpu till last hoping prices will come down, I have a corsair 550, the mobo was second hand and came with a cpu socket pin slightly bent but managed to bend it back and the cpu was pulled from an old computer a few months ago, not handled the best so not sure if I should return the mobo and take the hit on the cpu and get a more up to date mobo/cpu

I've had 2 bent mobo's and neither of those worked, slight bent can cause it not to work.

Update: just tried the cpu in another comp and boots to log in screen (didn't bother going past that stage as it shows it's working ) do you think this is deffo the mobo then? The psu fan spins as normal so surely no problems there?

Surely faulty mobo
