Got a pretty decent computer but I am looking to upgrade it. I'm just unsure of what to upgrade, like whether to get another graphics cards, more RAM, better processor etc.

I've currently got:
- GeForce GTX 760
- Intel i5-4670
- 12Gb RAM

Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

Solution
Processor will depend on 2 things, the motherboard and your affinity for OC. If you do not want to OC, then getting a new cpu is almost pointless unless you have a need for an i7 or Xeon. The i5 4670 is about the strongest i5 there is, only the 4690/4670k/4690k are stronger, and not by much.

Upgrading the gpu is basically your only viable option. You already have 12Gb of ram, which is 4Gb more than needed for 99% of games.

To upgrade the gpu would entail knowing what psu you have, and what your budget is, because to get the gpu you want may mean an upgraded psu too.
What is your computer for?

If the main use is gaming, I would get a better GPU and sell the GTX 760 you will probably be able to get at least 100$ for it at ebay or amazon, there are several GTX bits higher then 100$ at ebay.

I would go with the GTX 970 (Asus Strix or Evga Superclocked)

I was looking at a GTX 980 to get or else a i7-5930K. Would the graphics card be the better choice then? Also would there be any point in looking into running 2 graphics card at the same time?

Currently rocking the Corsair 650W PSU. I may be tempted to upgrade to a GTX 980. Do you think power would suffer much more or would an upgrade in a PSU be necessary as well.

No, you should not upgrade to i7-5xxx series, soon it will be released the new skylake CPU from intel, that will be more power efficient, will have support to ddr3 and 4.

The i7-5xxx have very good gaming performance, but you should start by upgrading the GPU and wait until the new Skylake is released to decide whether to upgrade the CPU.

If you ask me to make I guess, I would say that you will not need to upgrade your CPU for the next two years.

Choosing between GTX 970 and 980 will depend on the monitor you are using. If you have one monitor that works a 1080p you should get a GTX 970 (Asus Strix or Evega Superclocked would be good options), the GTX 980 would be an overkill in this scenario. If you dont know what to do with the extra money you save, you should give it to UNICEF :)

Btw, any PSU that can handle GTX 760, will be able to handle GTX 970 or 980, since they require less power to work. But the PSU might also be a part that your should upgrade, can you tell us what is the model of your PSU?

Which Corsair 650? HX, TXv2, RM are fine for a 980, CX, CS, VS, TX are pushing your luck. These 4 are low end Corsair units and don't fare well when pushed close to the limits. They should work, but no telling for how long or when issues may arise.

The 5930k is a lga 2011-3 cpu and not compatible with your motherboard, both of which together will set you back @$700+, you'll need to drop another $80+ on a really good cooler, another @$200+ on ddr4 ram etc. Basically it's a no go situation.

On that psu, a gtx970 would be as high as I'd go, especially on a single 1080p monitor. A gtx970 on 1080p will pretty much max out almost any game.

Surely, but on new motherboards.Still requires mobo upgrade. That was my point.

Because there is no cpu upgrade on op's motherboard without a mobo upgrade. With Broadwell out and Skylake around the corner, lga 1150 is now no different than am3+. A dead end. Once you hit the power of a 4960,thete is no upgrade at all. Only a sideways movement to an i7 or Xeon. It's a moot point. The only better cpu possible would be a i7-4790k, and thats only
because it has a 4.0GHz stock speed.

Look around you'll find 2x ddr3/ddr2 mobo's, 1 by Asus and 1 by asrock. Why? Because they didn't sell. Why? Because there is only so much real estate to be had on a board and no one wants a full ATX board that'll only handle 16Gb max of ram in 2 slots. Ppl like 4 slots because they have 4x ram sticks. Ddr3/4 combo boards will be about as popular as a turd in a punch bowl.

Not everybody upgrades every 2-3 years. Considering my 'aged' lga 1155 Ivy-Bridge will keep up easily with any current lga1150 i5, I don't see why ppl should need to.

No, he won't. Absolutely no reason to upgrade his cpu for 5 years at least. My 3570k is 3 yrs old, does this mean i must upgrade as soon as Skylake comes out? 2 years? That's a joke. Any quad core over @3.0GHz can handle just about any game at at least decent settings and frames and that includes the lga775 c2q's so why would op need to upgrade in 2 years?

???? you want to start a discussion about how long it will take for him to have the need to upgrade his CPU?? Did I even said that he will have to upgrade in two years? I said "probably". The guy already have the dam i5, so there is no point in starting a fight about how long that CPU will last with good performance, no need at all.

He needs to upgrade the CPU now? No!

He will need two upgrade his CPU in two years? Ask me again in two years and I will tell you.
