Not sure what's wrong - Graphics Card or motherboard

Hi

My Dad has recently brought a new GTX 1080, and it doesn't work on his build. However, his old GTX 980 and my GTX 970 work on it completely fine.

But all the cards work on my build perfectly, so I was wondering if it was his motherboard. His motherboard has encountered previous problems when starting up, and most of the time has to leave it in sleep mode.

We have another PC and it works fine on that also. I am positive that it's the motherboard, but my Dad insists it isnt.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We both aren't experts with computers but know the basics sort of.

may i ask what motherboard it is and all of the system components?

If the GTX970 and 980 works then the GTX1080 must be causing the problem, have you tried testing it on another PC?
