i have a vaio laptop and crucial said not to exceed manufacturer supported memory how to know that it's true?

Certain laptops only support a set amount of RAM, same goes for desktop hardware.
The difference is laptops will sometimes have a supported RAM amount lower than comparable models.

So yes, you have to follow that amount, your PC will not support anything more.
